Tropical Storm the storm is predicted to escalate to a uncommon Category 5 hurricane as it shifts toward Jamaica, bringing life-threatening flash flooding and landslides.

This weather system, which registered wind speeds of up to 120 miles per hour as of 6:00 AM GMT, is currently turning toward the northwest in the Caribbean and is anticipated to make landfall by Tuesday, according to meteorological authorities.

Warnings of blackouts and damage to infrastructure have been announced as this storm brings up to 76cm of rainfall and coastal flooding as high as 13ft above ground. "Take cover without delay," residents have been told.

Melissa is the thirteenth storm in the ongoing Atlantic storm period, which usually concludes in the eleventh month.

The country's head of government the official stated: "I realize that there are numerous residents who are worried, who are deeply troubled, and rightfully so: you should be concerned.

"Yet the best way to handle worry and any apprehension and worry is to be prepared."

Locals are being instructed to protect their properties with sandbags and timber panels, and to accumulate necessary supplies.

Warnings are also ongoing for areas in Haiti encompassing the primary urban center, the Dominican Republic and the eastern part of Cuba, where this storm is projected to bring comparable impacts by the midweek period.

Rock slides already being caused by the cyclone have caused two deaths in the country, according to emergency services.

The hurricane is predicted to cross the island nation by Wednesday before moving through the Greater Antilles and out into the Atlantic.
